This invitation only three day event brought together game-changers in the hotel architectural design and product development fields to share ideas and discuss new design trends. A series of one-to-one meetings, seminars and panel discussions between architects and international suppliers created a productive exchange of design ideas and developed meaningful business partnerships. A Proposal for the reuse of Distressed Hotels

Audrey Matlock Architects and Dynia Architects were co-sponsors for "The Distressed Hotel Forum." The virtual forum addressed the state of the hotel industry during the COIVD-19 Global Pandemic. As a member of the Value-Add, Redevelopment & Repurposing Strategies panel, Audrey presented her team's BIG-SMALL proposal for repurposing abandoned hotels as micro living units. Their strategy demonstrates how typical hotel rooms are perfectly sized for micro living. The building's circulation and infrastructural systems are easily adaptable to a this new use require minimal restructuring and waste. 02/16/21

Audrey Matlock writes on Art and Architecture in Medium

Audrey publishes articles on the social journalism platform Medium under the category of "Art and Architecture." A recent publication titled "Living with Contemporary Art: A Case Study" talks about different strategies for incorporating an art collection into the design of a home. During Palm Spring's Modernism Week, Unknown New York: The City that Women Built screened at the Palm Springs Art Museum. The Flim, which reveals the secrets of the once-anonymous city, introduces the women of Gotham whose legacy envelops us today. The map features over 70 properties based exclusively in Manhattan that were designed, engineered or developed by women. AM_A Featured in The City That Women Built

Unknown New York: The City that Women Built, a film highlighting contributions by female architects, engineeers and builders in shaping the New York Skyline has its world premire at the SVA Theater on June 6th. Told through images and an historical narrative, the 17-minute documentary directed by Beverly Willis showcases prominent New York City projects where women played leading roles. We are honored that two buildings, Chelsea Modern (featured on the announcement poster) and 57 Irving Place, both designed by Audrey Matlock Architect, were included. 06/06/18

Design Diffusion News (DDN) Magazine's articles decribes Audrey Matlock Architect's Seaponack House as "an exclusive residence surrounded by peace and nature that stands before the sea. Here Audrey Matlock Architect has created a dreamlike dwelling immersed in greenery calmy overlooking the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, perfectly inserted in the Peconic Bay." 05/20/18

Audrey Matlock Participates in the Stockholm Furniture Fair

Audrey Matlock, along with colleagues Ronnette Riley, Carol Ross Barney, Margaret Mcurry and Dean Maltz were invited by the Swedish Federation of Wood and Furniture Industry to attend the Stockholm Furniture Fair. Private events hosted by Bolon, Fogia and Garsnas provided a forum for a fruitful professional and cultural exchange of ideas. A tour of the city revealed Stockholm's rich architectural history and their forward thinking urban infrastructure systems. These systems inspired Audrey to write a series of articles entitled Stockholm Underground. 02/07/18

Record Houses 2017 Features the Bar House

AM_A’s Bar House was one of eight projects selected for Architectural Record’s Record Houses 2017. This issue showcases Record’s selection of the most notable recent house designs from across the globe.

“Rigorous—that’s the adjective that comes to mind to describe a refined but relaxed weekend house by New York architect Audrey Matlock in East Hampton, Long Island. Matlock has designed the L-shaped modernist structure—with its two wings supported on slender V-shaped steel pilotis—down to the smallest of elements.”

New Shapes of New York in the New York Times

A recent NY Times article discussed the significance of memorable architecture. It listed the buildings whose iconic forms have come to define New York’s urban profile. Among these are the Chrysler Building, Empire State Building and Guggenheim Museum. The article went on to speculate about which of the recently completed NYC buildings deserve to be added to this list of memorable architecture. AM_A’s Chelsea Modern building made the list of twelve along with SOM’s One World Trade and Gehry’s Spruce Street Tower.

Audrey Matlock’s work and design influences are explored in this dedicated monograph by Residential Architect Magazine.

“Smart and resourceful, with a staff of 12, Matlock has a keen eye for the texture of a neighbourhood, the contour of a landscape and the poetry of the exposed superstructure. Since founding her firm in the mid-1990s, she has garnered acclaim for work on a variety of programs and scales, from single-family homes and high-rise condominiums to a series of buildings for Armstrong World Industries, including its striking 125,000-square foot headquarters in Lancaster, PA.”

AM_A Contributes to Rise in the City: A Competition and Charity Auction

Artwork donated by 100 New York City artists and architects drew on the parallels between Lesotho culture and the “vibe” of different NYC blocks. A collaboration between AM_A’s Audrey Matlock and Rohan Cherayil won second prize in the competition and drew the highest sale price of the auction. Proceeds from our piece and the more than 70 other submissions will be used to expand orphanage facilities in Lesotho, Africa, and to financially bolster local entrepreneurial efforts there.

Archiculture's Interview With Audrey Matlock

As a part of their Archiculture series, Arbuckle Industries interviewed Audrey Matlock. Throughout the interview, Matlock discusses whether architecture is an art or a function, noting that a certain degree of harmony creates the best buildings. Matlock goes on to talk about the reduction of building-produced pollution, and the architect’s responsibility to protect the world’s ecology.

AM_A’s work was featured in an exhibit titled “Maximum / Minimum” at the University’s Slocum Hall Gallery. The show highlighted recent projects completed by the firm. A lecture by Audrey Matlock accompanied the opening of the exhibit.

AM_A’s proposal introduces a new concept where fashion is the star performer in a vibrant cultural experience.

The proposal aims to create a new umbrella brand, a retail experience that positions fashion within a broader cultural setting. The common characteristics of the various brands are emphasized while highlighting the unique qualities of each brand. The typical shopping experience will be redefined as leisure activity that includes fashion, food, drink, and an array of creative artistic endeavors. We propose to foster a lifestyle experience that can be repeated with multiple fashion brands and in different geographic locations.
