The building sits on the Peconic waterfront, where a private outcrop of land that provides 270-degree water views. The original 1990 house was a quirky structure filled with nautical references. An extensive renovation embraces the aspirations of its modernist character while expanding the building to engage the surrounding nature. A new, elevated bedroom wing faces the existing house across the pool. These are connected by a combined gallery/gathering space with a contoured roof that riffs on the original building’s curvy forms. The rooms surround a three-sided courtyard that opens to the bay.

A feeling of openness permeates the interior spaces. On the ground floor, there is a flow between common rooms, and a large atrium vertically connects the two floors. Throughout the house, the land and water sides of the property are visually linked through a combination of glass walls and courtyards. The result is a free-flowing home that casually weaves itself through the landscape.
