The Peacemaking Center‘s mission was to be a model for fostering peace through community engagement. Originally a banking hall, the space is a dramatic 22-foot-high volume with 12-foot-high windows. A desire to capitalize on these architectural assets drove the design concept. A two level structure positioned at one end of the building contains private meeting rooms. The remainder of the space becomes a flexible facility that can readily transform for a variety of uses. Likened to a life-sized erector set, an infrastructure of lo-tech durable elements can accommodate up to three large training rooms or an assembly space for 200. Since completion, the center has become popular for community events, presentations and lectures. Additionally, the ease of transforming from one large lecture space to small break rooms has allowed the client to book regular training sessions, adding a significant source of revenue to the organization. The financial success of this project made CMS phase two possible.
