The villa’s site is a steep mountain slope that views the majestic Tian Shan peaks, downtown Almaty and Butakovka village. The house has a multi-layered program with family accommodations, guest quarters, staff apartments, service facilities, meeting rooms and a dining pavilion for fifty people. This rich mix of functions inspired a concept for a central courtyard to unite the household community. The courtyard is hollowed into the hill and surrounded by a stone base that houses villa entries and staff services. The house sits atop this base where it has views to the mountains and the city. The main living spaces are raised on “V” shaped columns, appearing to float above the landscape. At the downhill side, a sloping lawn knits the house level back into the mountainside and at the uphill side, the dining pavilion bridges over the courtyard to connect with the highest point of the site.
